Depression - I need help my mom is mixing meds with her cymbalta. What should I try to git rid of?

I don't know how old you are, but I do know that what your mother is currently doing is extremely dangerous. I know I can only answer one time with this set-up, but please (please!) email me if you need more advice than what I will offer here (I have worked for a crisis hotline for a very long time, and I suggest you try calling a local crisis center if there is one near your city/county). If you are 18-years of age or older, I would advise you to contact her primary psychiatrist (or general physician, if that is who she is receiving these medications from) right away and explain the situation as urgent and an emergency. If you know the name of this doctor then great--just look her/him up in the phone book. If not, see if you can find one of his/her business cards (they use them each time an appointment is set-up) at your mother's house.

Who are you living down the street with, or is it your home? If it is your home, then I assume you are old enough to get this issue some attention ASAP! Do you feel like your mother is a potential threat to you and/or your sister? That is, with her self-medication, is it possible that if you went to check-up on her, she might be so medicated-out of it to physically attack or try to harm you? Remember, if nobody is with her, she is at an even greater risk for potentially harming herself--the consequences of mixing psychoactive drugs could literally lead to any possible scenario. Do you have any idea what she is mixing together? Is there any logic behind it, or is she just so upset with the whole medication-increase that she just decided to take whatever she had whenever she felt like it?

I will leave you with this simple advice, and you feel free to email me if you would like to do so. Without knowing the specifics of your mother's condition (her mental health and current state, her liability for hurting herself or others, and the medications she is mixing together--and many more crucial details that I won't continue to list), it seems clear that somebody--a professional--needs to step-in and attempt to take control of the current situation ASAP. Although it may be very emotionally painful for you to do so, it may be necessary to notify a local crisis center or, more importantly perhaps, the police, to explain the situation going on. I offer this advice only because I know--from others who have undergone similar situations--that the transient pain you might feel in the short-term will seem negligible in the future, particularly if you are afraid for your mother's life.

I am not trying to scare you or make you feel guilty; what is happening it is neither your fault, nor is it under your control. I am just trying to make clear how serious this type of situation (depending on all of those factors I do not know about--particularly your mother's mental state, what medications she is mixing, and the resultant effects that having taken different medications on a self-formulated routine may cause... or may have already caused).
