Hello,

Demerol (meperidine) is a opioid pain reliever. It is similar to morphine. An opioid is sometimes called a narcotic.

Meperidine is used in the treatment of pain; light sedation and belongs to the drug class narcotic analgesics.

Neither. Demerol is meperidine. Meperidine, Oxycodone and hydrocodone are different drugs. Like Masso said, they are all considered opioids or "narcotics" and are in the same family but they are NOT the same drug.
