I am feeling sick to my stomach with fever like symptoms, body aches and a temperature. I am supposed to cut back to 10 mg a day of Paxil to ween myself off over the next two weeks. Anyone else come off Paxil for this drug? I am currently diagnosed with panic and anxiety disorder along with depression and have been since 2001. Any advice of things to expect? I am very nervous about coming off Paxil after 11 years and really hope pristiq works for me. I guess I'm most worried about battling panic attacks again. I know it will probably take a month to know whether or not this was the right choice but thought maybe someone else out there might have some good advice to put my mind at ease. Thanks in advance.

Kim,
In all of my years of being on anti-depressant meds, I simply stopped one and started a new one. No weaning. Are you on Klonopin for your panic/anxiety issues? They can be most terrifying at times, and it does sound to me, panic issues are biting your ankles right now. Please ask your doc for an anti-anxiety med for this transition from one to another. Just might relieve your anxiety.
Peace,
Sweet Hippie

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of asking for something a little fast acting to get me through the tough moments. I haven't had a full attack yet but your right I can feel one creeping up on me. Thankfully 20mg daily was the highest I ever got on the Paxil or I'm sure coming off of it would have been more of nightmare then it already is becoming. 11 years on the same med with no panic attacks has me a little spoiled, unfortunately the depression was rearing its ugly head again. I hope the doc is right about pristiq, I have never taken anything else so fingers crossed!
Thanks again <3
Kim,
I forgot to tell you that Paxil is an SSRI while desvenlafaxine or pris whatever, I forget the brand name, is a SNRI. It inhibits the reuptake of two happy neurotransmitters in your brain, seratonin and norepinephrine ... should be a good choice. Just takes up to a month to feel a bit better. I would ask my shrink how he felt about Klonopin as an anti-anxiety med. I love it, no panic attacks in years, unlike. Xanax.
Just a suggestion.

Great answer Laura. I def agree that Kim needs a benzodiazapine for a short while (sorry Kim, this feels like talking about someone when they are standing right in front of ya!) But, is it possible that Kim is having an allergic reaction to the Pristiq, or am I way out of line here? I most certainly don't want to add to your worry or panic, so just ignore this Kim.
Laura is a nurse (and a damned good one) and would know if you are having an allergic reaction.
Love ya, our sweet hippie,
Mac
As kim already said, call your doctor about the issue and see what they can do for you!
I'm 9days into starting Pristiq 50 as a replacement for Cymbalta 60 which didn't agree with me and I lasted 15days on that and my Doctor swaped me to Pristiq. I have had a horrible time for the 9 days with nausea and vomiting, felling hot all the time but with no body temp over 36.5. I see my doctor tomorrow and will be talking to him regarding whether I stay on them however I have read some reports where you could need up to 6-8week to get used to them and it would be a pity to have to start again as I don't want to go back to anxiety and panic attaches. I hope that you guys ride it out and it settles down quickly
