I have been taking Cymbalta for the past couple of years and have really liked it. However, this last month, I switched to the generic brand of Cymbalta. I have been anxious, depressed, and suicidal again. Aren't generics supposed to be the same? Are there other cases of this happening? Please advise.

i had to switch back, i had the very same issues. it took an act of GOD and a long wait for the approval, i am still not back to normal- having HUGE anxiety issues, and OCD thoughts, and not sleeping. I have restless lage and they were really bad with the generic. now my cost is huge, but hoefully will be worth the $200 for 3 months thrus express scripts. they are another issue. a huge pain in the ASS.

I hope that everyone who has written to this website already has or will report their problem with generic Cymbalta to the FDA and, if at all possible, have your doctors report it as well. As of 2015, my insurance will no longer cover name brand Cymbalta and I am aware this has been a problem for many of you. The FDA is investigating this issue and the more reports they get, the more seriously they will consider taking the current generic version off the market which may force insurance companies to cover the name brand once more. This will be of great benefit to all of us who need the name brand Cymbalta, but cannot afford it without insurance coverage.

If you have the choice, make sure your doctor marks the prescription "Brand Only". I wasn't aware my RX company was going to mail me a generic form of Cymbalta in March, 2014 (Some states have generic substitution laws in place.) I've straightened this situation out now and should have brand Cymbalta in a few days. Good luck!

I've been following all of the posts since I wrote mine and this appears to be a very serious problem. People who have been on Cymbalta for depression and suicidal thoughts could end up taking their lives because of this generic garbage. I would hope that everyone would report this to the FDA. Someone earlier left a link to their website to make a report and I truly think they need to know about this. PLEASE look back to previous posts for the link. It's just a form you need to fill out with a few places for comments. We will not only be helping ourselves, but this could be saving lives. In addition, it might affect what your insurance will cover to your financial benefit.

I practically lost a year of my life after being switched to generic Cymbalta. It was this slow downward spiral. I found myself hopeless, anxious and depressed. Almost suicidal. Had NEVER experienced anything like it. My husband and I finally connected the dots and it all started when I switched to generic Cymbalta (after taking name brand for 4 years and did well). And every month my pills would look different, different manufacturer, I was constantly having to use the pill identifier to make sure what I was taking. Long story short, I now am taking Paxil and am back to my old self! Thank God. I literally thought I was going crazy. I am a mom of 2 little ones and I could barely take care of myself. The FDA needs to do something about this. I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a class-action lawsuit. It was THE MOST awful time of my life. I had never had depression before! Just anxiety. Scared me out of my mind.
Such BS! Literally had days when being committed sounded comforting to me. I so feel for all of you who have experienced this like I have. I know some people did fine switching back to regular name brand Cymbalta but my Dr changed my scrip altogether and Paxil has made me feel like a new (and even improved!) person. Hugs to you all.

I will add that I have been on Cymbalta for about 8 years and have had no problems. A couple months ago I switched to generic and didn't have any problems until the past couple of weeks. It started with being very tired. Sleeping a lot later than I normally do, and now I am getting those brain zaps. I tried to ignore it shrugging it off as stress at work, but the brain zaps are getting worse and I have been having intense strange dreams that leave me exhausted in the morning. I am starting to think after reading all of these reactions that it could be the generic version. I got some brand name today and I will see what happens. I think the tiredness is depression coming back. The brain zaps always happened if I forgot a day or two so something is up for sure.

Has anyone here been given a higher dosage of the generic instead of their former dosage of the brand name drug? I am fighting with my insurance company month to month to keep getting the brand name and the pharmacy I use doesn't even keep the brand name in stock and has to order it for me. I'm willing to experiment with a higher dose of the generic if it is somehow "less powerful". Having had several experiences now with the generic and withdrawal, I do at least know how to correct them quickly should anything occur. But first I would like to know if anyone has had any good results or if the generic is just no good in any dose.

The pharmacy switched me to generic cymbalta about a month a go, just got the second refill of it I believe. I've been more anxious, but I am moving after three years in one place, so that may be why. I have noticed more headaches than I usually have also. Again I can't say the generic is causing them for sure, just things I've noticed.

I have been taking the generic form of Cymbalta for 3 months now and I have been noticing increased suicidal thoughts, feelings of hopelessness, generally unhappy, and increased body pain. I couldn't put my finger on why I was feeling so low until I remembered I switched to generic. I am planning on going back to name brand on my next refill. Hoping that will help.

I am on my second month of the generic and now I know why I have been experiencing headaches (never do otherwise) and have had absolutely no energy or worse no desire to do anything. sleep... and just don't care about doing my chores or going to store or even walking haha I am going to call healthcare doctor and let them know. I wouldn't have known unless all of you wouldn't have made your comments. thank you! you have helped me

Saw my dr last week (a well respected psychiatrist). She said more than 90% of her patients on generic Cymbalta had called or come in with serious issues since being switched to generic. The generic is going to continue to cause serious problems until the FDA addresses this issue.
