I have been taking Cymbalta for the past couple of years and have really liked it. However, this last month, I switched to the generic brand of Cymbalta. I have been anxious, depressed, and suicidal again. Aren't generics supposed to be the same? Are there other cases of this happening? Please advise.

Hello I was just started on cymbalta switiching from zoloft generic form setretiline when I first started on setretiline it worked great then after six months it quit so doc switched me to cymbalta 60mg once daily and its generic 2 30 mg blue and grey pills its awesome compared to zoloft generic 100 mg but the ingriedient dulexatine is supposed to be the same as cymbalta so they say but if your taking name brand for awhile then you may notice a difference take it awhile till your system adjusts then say somthing to your doctor about the differenceses if they havnt improved the cost facter is a plus as far as my insurance is concerend if cost isn't a problem for you then ask your doctor to ask for name brand when prescribing your meds hope this helps .

My pharmacy switched me to the generic 2 months ago. I began to get very depressed having crying jags & anxiety. The pharmacy suggested I try it a bit longer so I did but now I have a constant headache along with the depression. I just got it switched back today. The generic did not work for me. It is much more cost effective but what is more important. I think I'll pay the extra and be at peace. I hope you can resolve your issue soon. I felt like saying to the pharmacist this is my brain we're talking about not a rash or sore toe!

The pharmacy switched me to generic cymbalta about a month a go, just got the second refill of it I believe. I've been more anxious, but I am moving after three years in one place, so that may be why. I have noticed more headaches than I usually have also. Again I can't say the generic is causing them for sure, just things I've noticed.

I wouldn't have known unless all of you wouldn't have made your comments. thank you! you have helped me

I have been taking generic Cymbalta for the past 2 months. Previous to this, I had taken brand name Cymbalta for 6 years with great success. In the second month of the generic drug, I began having increased anxiety, constant crying spells and an overall feeling of sadness and dread. It never occurred to me that the generic Cymbalta was responsible for this. I told my doctor and he said he had a handful of patients who had experienced the same problems. He prescribed me brand name ONLY Cymbalta. My current predicament is now that the generic Cymbalta has been approved, my insurance company won't cover the brand name and I cannot afford it. I am feeling helpless.

I have been taking Cymbalta since July 2013 with no problems because my pain management doctor switched me from generic Lexapro because Cymbalta is also supposed to help with pain. Just had my prescription switched to the new generic Cymbalta-duloxetine-and I feel like I have stopped my antidepressant cold turkey. Crying at the drop of a hat, feeling like screaming. At first, I chalked it up to being on my period, but once my period always starts, my pms symptoms go away. I know it's the generic medicine and this sucks. I just called and left a message w/ my pain mgmt. nurse practitioner asking to be switched back to generic Lexapro because I never experienced a problem switching from brand name to the generic escitalopram and I can't afford $200+ a month for Cymbalta. I know that CVS/Caremark will refuse to cover the brand name. I am so sick of insurance companies and pharmacies trying to tell you and your doctor what is best for you.

I have Fybromyalgia, which is why my Dr. switched out my other anti-depressant and put me on Cymbalta, primarily for pain management. After being on Cymbalta successfully for the past four years, I have just realized that the problems I have been experiencing lately are related to the generic Cymbalta. I started the generic about a month ago. It is not quite as bad as if I stopped taking it cold turkey, but I have noticed that I am more irritable, weepy and have had feelings of hopelessness lately. I also want to sleep all the time! Thankfully, I haven't had the problem with the headaches that others are experiencing, but I have had some ringing in my ears. (I'm not sure if that is related.) The main thing I have noticed is my extreme sensitivity to pain has returned. I went to the dentist yesterday and had some deep cleaning and a filling replaced. I almost went through the roof!! It took multiple shots of novocaine (like 8) to get through both procedures.
Now I know why!!! I hope my Dr. will put me back on the original Cymbalta again and my insurance will cover it.

I have been on Cymbalta for arthritis pain for two years with great results. Pharmacy switched me to generic three months ago and pain came back with a vengeance. Also started having migraines. Switched back to name brand for one month and headaches and pain went away. Now new insurance plan refusing to cover it. One month on generic and the migraines and pain, especially at night are becoming a huge problem. Trying to see if my body will adjust and give it one more month. Will update again later. Curious, why would this post be marked as controversial.

I have been taking the new generic for Cymbalta for
11/2 months. I am having headaches, flu symptoms, sore throat, sheer exhaustion. I can't find anything else that I have changed. I am going back to Cymbalta as soon as this perscription is gone to see if this is the problem.

I also started the new generic cymbalta . I have been very Emotional and Crying all the time. I actually have thought that I maybe should admit myself to the hospital . I have mentally been out of control. I started back on the name brand cymbalta 3 days ago and I already fell better . I can only assume that it's been the generic cymbalta. Not a good experience .

THANK you! I got switched to the generic of Cymbalta as well about a couple of months ago. I have had the worse headaches and I can't seem to get the motivation up to do anything but sit around or sleep. I had the doctor switch me back and will start back this weekend or so. I sincerely hope I don't have to wait 6 weeks again to feel better! I called the pharmacist and of course they've heard of no problems. I wish people would tell their pharmacists so when the next person comes along asking the question on this generic - they do have complaints. This generic does not work the same!
