My son is 14 years old and has had crohns for 2 years. He is on a number of meds including mercaptopurine. I have researched this drug and found that it causes sterility in men. Does anyone know what these drugs do to someone long term? I'm a worried mom. Thanks for your help

He is having a flare-up now. We had blood work done yesterday. I hope they they don't put him on steroids again. I hate these drugs but I know they work. I'm just worried what they do long term.

Unfortunately yes, mercaptopurine (and many other cytotoxic drugs) can cause oligospermia (low sperm count) in men. BUT it is very difficult to say that it will definitely cause it.
