Been placed on coumadin for the rest of my life. I am a 29 year old young mother of two. Since being diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome I have been on 7-10 mg of coumadin depending on my inr. Since taking this drug I have been suffering a small amount of depression, crying for no reason and a general lack of direction. Prior to coumadin I was a confident self assured happy pre-school teacher. Has anyone else had this issue with coumadin or am I just feeling self pity?

I know how you feel. When I discovered I had AFIB 5 months ago and put on warfarin, I was so scared and felt so hopless. But took charge of my life and found this site and read everything I could find. Watched what I ate. Kept a diary of what I eat. Look up Dr. Gourment Coumdin Diet. Don't eat the foods high in Vit K and your mg of coumadin will decrease. Take a good vit and min that does not contain Vit K. I feel good and working everyday. Good Luck to you. Praying for you!

crashelle82. Let me hear from you. Are you feeling better.
Yes thank you, still haven't stabilized my INR so blood testing every three days isn't much fun lol. But definitely taken into account your wise words and practicing a much healthier lifestyle. Hard going being 29 and subject to vices but for the better! Are light pain killers such as mersyndol disruptive to coumadin?
I have been on C. for way too long (8 years) and am making the conscious decision to change to Pradaxa because I am so done with this C/warfarin.

Even though Pradaxa is a pain because of the two-a-day-dose, I feel I have a better chance at success. C. has been very difficult for me because I am a vegetarian who eats tons of leafy green vegies, I take supplements and vitamins (without K, of course) and I like a glass of wine now and then. So even though I have been following Dr. Gourmet for years, when applicable, my INR is all over the place... depending on the season. Because, the real problem is the fact that I eat according to the seasons (which is rthe healthy way to eat). So if leafy greens are in, I eat those, if it's the tomato season... that's on the menu. Since Pradaxa has entererd into the picture and this other new drug that is being currently tested for admission, I am excited! Only one blood test a year, almost no side effects, you can eat anything you want!
Downside: if you need emergency surgery there may be some difficulty in controlling your bleeding... no small matter to consider. What a dilemna! But at least now there is a choice.
