I have Barrett's Esophagus from elevated acid levels (reflux). I need a pickup on a daily basis and was wondering if guarana extract would work the same way as coffee in that it would cause more acid to be secreted. Thank you for any assistance that you may give me.
Could guarana extract cause heartburn(gerd)?

Hi Norma:
In my personal opinion, I would stay away from guarana. Also, for you own sake, stay away from the energy drinks period. I took one cause my hubby asked me to cut the lawn on a Sat. He was working and it was going to rain for the next couple of days. I was outside and within a half hour of drinking some awful energy drink, I was sicker than a dog.
I need a pick me up daily and I do drink coffee. I drink it with milk, so it doesn't upset my stomach.
I have Barrett's and it is no picnic. I wish there was a cure for this disease - it is starting to run my life.
