Price of Coreg CR had increased so much that my Pharmacist suggested two pills a day instead of one 40mg coreg which is now over $400. Two pills of
Carvedilol will be the same dosage as taking one Coreg.

If you take Coreg CR you will need to take a controlled release (long acting) generic.
I'm not sure if there is a generic controlled release tablet available.
Check with your pharmacist.
If there is not a controlled release generic then have a chat with your doctor to find out what he/she thinks.
You may need to be monitored more closely if you decide to change.
The generics have been FDA approved so you can assume that they are as safe and effective as the original brand.
