Details:
Due to a back chronic pain, I have been on Oxycodone for 4 weeks. 3 X day 10mg/325 with phergan. Also, once or twice a day flexeril. A little nervous here... Usually take Tramadol and that usually is perfect to live with back pain. My discs (4) of them are a mess, and I have spinal stenosis.
Dr. Suggested short term Percocet since Tramadol wasn't cutting the pain. Now I am nervous about suddenly stopping... Withdrawals?
Question... What can I expect in terms of detox? My back pain has really improved and I would like to use Tramadol as needed. Will I have major withdraws from Percocet and what is best way to approach to stop using this?
Thank you for any tips!!!

Hi Martha,
I don't think you will have any withdrawal at all. I think you can just stop, and in a few days you will feel just like you were before you took them. Or you can cut down 1 pill each day for 3 days and stop. Taking 30 mg of Oxycodone for 4 weeks isn't enough time to get hooked. So I don't think you have to detox. Your body hasn't reached a point of being opioid dependent. However, if you don't stop very soon, that may start to happen in a small way. Have you tried just not taking them? Has anything other than the return of pain happened? Stop, and if you feel horrible, which I doubt, take 2 that day. The next day if you feel badly, take 1. Then take 1 for 3 days and stop.

I'm more concerned about the Tramadol. I hope your doc didn't tell you they are non addictive? They are addictive. They are also harder to stop because it takes longer for the effects to go away completely. So don't try to quit Tramadol and Percs together. Just quit Percs first. After 5 - 7 days without a Perc you can cut down on Tramadol, maybe sooner. It depends how you feel. How long have you taken Tramadol? Please don't use Tramadol everyday for more than 1 month, and don't take more than prescribed. If you do that you should be fine. It's just that believe it or not, very many Docs don't really know Tramadol is addictive. That's what the drug reps tell them, and they believe it. But you will be fine. You're stopping in plenty of time. No need to be nervous.
Let us know how you do.

Martha, my dear,
Beatles song, doncha know... to your question, I personally, was on 90 mg oxycodone for ten years and took myself completely off in two weeks. However, since you have been on such a small amount for a very short time, I don't see any reason for you to just stop. You were taking 30 mg oxy for 4 weeks, let me rephrase, you were taking 30 mgs of oxys with acetamenophen plus phenergan for nausea and are switching back to Tramadol ,(did nothing for me) which works for you, and voila, you have taken yourself off of the most popular narcotic for abuse, and you have pain relief for your poor injured back. It's a win-win situation.
If you should have any problems, please call your prescribing physician for his/her advice.
Best of luck to you, Martha my dear...
The Sweetest Hippie,
Laura

Thanks Thor283. I have been on Tramadol for 4 years and was told is was a "non narcotic." there was no mention of it being addictive! To be honest, with the back pain I have, I wouldn't. Be able to function. This is shocking to me that I was no told this.
No worries ... I called my Pharm Rep and she told me not to take them at the same time. I will have to figure out a new ball game for tramadol. Great fun!
Thanx!
