Celebrex is an NSAID. It is a COX-2 inhibitor. One of the side effects is bleeding. If bleeding occurs you should stop taking the medication and hopefully the bleeding will resolve. I would recommend that you consult a urologist to check your bladder and kidneys to be sure nothing serious is going on in the urinary tract causing the hematuria. Hopefully it is just a side effect of the Celebrex. Please consult the Dr to find out if you should resume the Celebrex once the bleeding has resolved. Some Drs dont want you to use NSAIDS at all if you are prone to bleeds.

Who put you on 400mg of Celebrex a day? I am only allowed to take 200mg every 24 hours because of the potential bleeding as a side effect. I have taken 400mg (2x200mg) on occasion but my gp is very strict about not increasing my dosage unless I am having an extremely painful episode, and only for 1-2 days at a time. You need to go back to your prescribing physician and discuss what is happening and if you should perhaps take something different. All NSAIDs have the potential to cause bleeding so you may need to look at something totally different.
Thank you so much for replying. I have RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy)
a chronic pain condition of the sympathetic nervous system. I had a minor
accident 11 years ago and developed the RSD as a result. The RSD causes
a lot of inflammation in addition to the horrific pain. Years ago I had used
Vioxx for the inflammation and never had a problem. A couple of months ago
I had a very bad flare up, reminiscent of when I was first injured, my first
stage of RSD. I was debilitated and bedridden for three weeks. My blood work
up showed my body inflammation was three (3) times the normal range! In order to try to alleviate my symptoms, I was given px for 200 mgs, 2 x day.
The celebrex helped my inflammation, but if it causes renal hematuria problems, of course, I cannot stay on it. Back to the drawing board.
I took Vioxx for about 3-4 years (can't remember now! lol) and I still miss it. It worked well and I had no side effects with it. I was devastated when it went off the market. I hope everything works out for you and that your solution is that simple.

Thank you for replying. I had used celebrex in the past, just not as much. I never saw blood in my urine, I still don't hence the hematuria. The reason why I asked this question is because I indeed, did follow up with a urologist. I was given another, more specific urinalysis, that showed there were no cancer cells (thank God). Then the urologist sent me for a renal/bladder sonogram. Again, thank God, there were no masses, no kidney stones, nothing. I was also r/o for a urinary tract infection. I had had another adverse reaction just recently with another med totally unrelated to the reason for the celebrex. It got me to thinking that if the urologist is scratching his head as to the cause of my hematuria, perhaps it is as simple as the celebrex. So, I went into the FDA website and looked up side effects. Sure enough, hematuria was one. I will, of course, follow up once again with my urologist, but I believe that I, myself,

have found the problem. I will wait a couple of weeks post celebrex abstinence
and ask my urologist to take another urinalysis while I cross my fingers.
I have been thinking about your reply since yesterday. Although I knew enough to follow up with the urologist, testing, etc. post learning about the hematuria, I kept wondering why I didn't suspect the celebrex earlier on, i.e., before referenced it with the FDA and posted my query to this site. I took to my celebrex bottle to re-read its side effects on the back label because I could not remember ever seeing the "bleeding" aspect of same. The label on my px bottle does not state that the celebrex could cause renal issues or bleeding. label mentions various other side effects, but not the "bleeding". I am going to telephone my pharmacist again today to speak with him about that. My primary physician never mentioned "bleeding" or renal issues to me and as I had never had the problem prior, it did not dawn on me. Well, that and the fact that I have had so much going on in my life during the time he re-pxd the celebrex and upped it.
