Hello,
It depends not all organisms assimilate the drug in the same way, there are many factors that must be considred. How long has she been on it..if she has taken meds before she might have developed a high tolerance levels to the chemicals that make up the med, the age (eg for me it may take a wek or more or less and the other way around for your mum) I would say a week at least or less.
I also suggest you ask her Doctor.
I took Tegretol which is also carbamzepine, I have a high tolerance level to meds so for me it took a while but evnetually it worked , I do not remmember exactly how long it took.
Carbatrol is a long-acting medication that contains carbamazepine in three different types of beads, immediate-release beads (which work quickly), extended-release beads (which work slowly), and delayed-release beads (which work after a delay). These three types of beads help provide a consistent level of medication in your blood.
Best of wishes... froma caring induvidual.
Bucky1 is correct..I agree with him
She has been so sick dizzy and vomitting from that medicine. I called the doctor and he said to give her only one a day for a few more days. It raised her blood pressure too. I don't know if this medicine is worth all this trouble. Thanks

Thank you for your quick response. My Mom is 71, she started taking this med two days ago once a day and then started today twice a day. That's what her doctor told her to do. She's taking the 200 MG extended release. She was previously taking Neurontin which did not work too well. I hope that after a week this begins to work. Thank you so much for the informaiton!!
I also hope it starts to work soon on her (she has been on it for a short period of time , let a few more days go by ..if you do not see any improvement contact your Doctor..OK)... and there is no need to thank me.
Best wishes for both of you.
I wanted to ask you one more question. Did you experience dizziness with it? My mother is feeling a little dizzy and it says that it causes dizziness but I wanted to see if once you get used to it, does it go away?
Thanks
Yes, but it does go away eventually..now it depends( as I said we all react differently) ..if it does not go away soonish contact her Doctor, but in my case I take many meds which are a lot stronger than this one and I have experienced worse s. effects and they do go away. Do not get desperate ok it is listed as a common side effect do not worry so much but do keep a close eye on her, if by the 4th or 5th day it does not go away CONTACT HER DOCTOR ASAP. keep me posted I will add you as a friend you do the same ... ok
Well after suffering for three days the doctor stopped the Carbatrol. My mother has been dizzy, nauseated and vomitting for three days now. Her blood pressure went up from 122/82 to 184/112. So we decided to stop this medicine. It did help the seizure issues but almost killed her with the dizziness and nausea. We go back next Friday, hopefully there's something not as strong that she can take.
