My doctor told me it is okay for me to take Benadryl Allergy Ultra Tablets since I came down with Shingles. My rash is gone now but the pain of PHN is still there on a daily basis every morning and in the evenings. I have been taking Benadryl for 3 1/2 months now. This makes me drowsy and helps me to sleep at night. But I am very concerned now if it can make you addicted to it. Please any advice would be very helpful.

You will not get addicted to benadryl or other oral antihistamine. Although it may lose their effectiveness overtime. I used antihistamine for a year for my skin asthma. It did not help much only reduced my concentration. I switched to vitamins and minerals and hit the gym too. I can sleep better at night.

You will not get a physical addiction to Benadryl, but can get a mental addiction to them, which is not as bad. Sleep is so important for a healthy body, I would use them PRN with melatonin and B6. This should allow you to get a longer uninterupted sleep each night.
If you are getting alot of sleep but, always feel tired, then you should probably look up information on possible sleep problems. Sleep apnea for instance is something alot of people have and are never dianosed with leading to sleep without R.E.M. and will make you very tired during the day.

Its nice to hear that your clean now and off of prescription drugs. I hate
pills with a passion and only take them when I have to for pain. What does PRN mean? I am not going to take anymore Benadryl Allergy Ultra pills from now on. I found out that I was having a bad reaction from taking the Benadryl Allergy pills like dizziness and headaches. I am still in a
lot of pain from having PHN. I realized that doctors don't have much knowledge when it comes to prescribing medications to their patients the best thing to do is to call your local pharmacist and ask him/her what the side effects are and what are the effects of long term usage of over the counter and prescription drugs?
