I recently seem to have a rash on both arms and have not changed any meds. My dosage is 2,000 of metformin and 23 units of Lantus at night.
Can you develop an allergic reaction to Metformin after being on the medication for 9 months?

It is usually unlikely although both Metformin & Lantus have reported allergic reactions such as rashes, if the side effects are too bothersome, it would be recommended to talk to the doc/pharmacist who prescribed the med, he/she might change or alter the dose. Take care, be well & safe.

I have been on Metformin for 3 months now and for the last 4 weeks I have been breaking out in hives. I take the first around 9:00a.m. and the second one after dinner. By the time I go to bed I am covered with hives. Even in my head. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor. I tought maybe it was something I have been eating. But it's not that.
I have been also taking Metformin, it perhaps has different side effects, I had acute constipation.
Yes, I too have experienced a mild case of hives by the end of the day or early evening. I have been taking this drug for about 25 days now. I had no hives symptoms for the first 20 days then the hives started. I take 1000 mg per day. (500 mg 2 X day) I plan to stop right now and call my doctor tomorrow. Thanks for the posting.
I have taken metformin 2000mg for the past 10 months and the past three weeks have what appears to look like an allegeric reactions. I have rashes on both arms, neck, face and legs. Have not contacted my physician, but after reading one person's experience of hives like syntoms and the suggested answer to contact physician, I will do that asap.
