Exelon improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine (ah see til KO leen). People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning.
Exelon is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.
I couldn't say for sure that it'll help. It may do and the patient's doctor would be the best person to ask. In people with injury the memory loss may be due to permanent damage so Exelon might not be able to improve the function.

My husband has been using Excelon capsules 4.5mg x 2 per day and he has TBI from a cardiac arrest. It seems to be helping him significantly with long term memory, mood and processing speeds. Not so much with problem solving, but that is also most likely a side effect from the anoxia.
