I have had my tongue pierced for 3 years, never had a problem. Recently this week just got on the Suboxone to kick a 5 year opiate addiction, and I feel pretty great. I noticed that my tongue piercing is swollen, and a bit painful. Also I have a slight sore throat. Is it possible these are side effects of the Suboxone?
Can Suboxone cause an infection with a tongue piercing? Since it is absorbed under the tongue?

hi jbks, its funny that you say that,i have been on suboxone for 11 months and this is my first infection on sub.my tongue is a little swollen and my gums are a little sore.but its worth the trade off.i am starting to rinse with after taken my sub.but wait at least 30 min before doing this.im using mouthwash and its getting better after 3 days.but tell your doctor just in case, cause some people may be allergic to it.or maybe your doc can suggest what to do... let us know how its going.join the suboxone group.

Thanks you guys! Im going to check out that site. I rinsed with salt water before bed and when i woke up and the swelling went down a little bit, but I am going to talk to my doctor about it. I will let you guys know what he has to say :] . Im glad I got some responses because when I looked it up I couldnt find anything wtih suboxone and tongue piercings, so I feel a little better that its not just me. I took the ring out, because honestly, It has no meaning behind it, so if it closes Its not a big deal. The suboxone is more important, I finally feel like im getting myself back slowly. Thanks again you guys !
