It is possible to get ring worm from a surface that got exposed to an animal with ring worm or even another person. It is highly contagious and takes a few weeks to clear up. We got ring worm from coming into contact with my sister's couch that her dog had rubbed it's affected nose on. If it is a circular rash with nothing in the middle, it is probably ring worm. The doctor's office will likely tell you to use Lamisil or tolfanate, available in most drug stores in the athlete's foot section and the jock itch section. Use the cream at least twice daily and wash your hands thoroughly after treating. The tolfanate seems to work quickest.
