I currently take 3mg of Klonopin per day, and 250mg of Nuvigil - something almost identical to Provigil. So yes, you can take the two together without any troubles, or at least that is my experience.
I've been taking the Nuvigil due to the fact that I'm also prescribed a large amount of other sedatives for several conditions, making it difficult to stay awake during the daytime. I don't know if the other medications that are taken would have any affect on the end results. I do know that Provigil and Nuvigil can alter the effectiveness of the other medications, however I have not experienced this, or at least in a very minor way.
As far as exact amounts, don't I think that the amounts are exactly relevant, basically the amount determined by what works for you.
