Can Prilosec cure what causes heartburn?

Have you seen a physician for this problem? Usually an ongoing problem will require longer than 14 days of treatment. I take omprazole (generic Prilosec) for gerd, & probably will the rest of my life. Each time I've tried to quit it within 2 days I have terrible symptoms again. It's a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the acid in the stomach. I produce too much acid ergo the heartburn problem. I also have a small hiatal hernia that I definately do not want to get irritated so that's is another reason I continue with the drug. Each person is different, & it may be that you can get by with the use of it for 14 days. I am not a doctor, plus do not know why you are having heartburn so much. A lot of people can get by using Tums, or adding a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water which does help temporarily. Hope this has helped you...

I was taking prilosec twice a day regardless of my diet. i eliminated citrus,tomato dairy spicy foods, I got a slant pillow for my bed as I usually had to sleep sitting up and nothing made a difference if I stopped the prilosec. I was recommended by my herbalist to start taking "Aloe Life"Herbal aloe "Stomach Plus Formula". I took it 3 times a day for 3 weeks and stopped the prilosec. I then tapered it off and only take it maybe once every two days. I sleep like a baby. No sore throats,endless burping, chest pain. it is really a miracle cure for me. It is a liquid, a little strange to taste but worth anything.I DO NOT work for this company!I am a retired 69 year old woman who was told by my medical doctor that due to my age it was something I would have to put up with for the rest of my life.I was concerned about the side effects of Prilosec and that was why I searched around for an alternative
