I had been on pravachol 40 for a couple of years when my lab work indicated it just wasn't bringing my numbers down, so my doctor increased it to 80 mg. The next time I had lab work done, I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic. There is no family history of diabetes, but my brother was put on pravachol 80 and he is diabetic now also.
Can pravachol 80 cause type 2 diabetes?

My doctor has taken me off pravachol now, but I feel like the damage is already done and is irreversible.

It is not known to cause type 2 diabetes but can alter your blood sugar numbers if you are already a diabetic on meds. You may have had pre-diabetes and not even known it and now your numbers are up but please rest assure it more than likely didn't cause the diabetes. Good luck diabetes can be very tricky if not monitored closely, take care marjorie zych
