I am treated as POS for years and i am 42 years old. I am taking ortho-tri-cyclen-lo for 5 months. I was told that i have fatty liver and now the blood result shows too much enzymes.
Can ortho-tri-cyclen-lo can effect liver?

Please excuse my stupidity, but I have no idea what POS is, and I was an ICU RN for years.
The simple answer to your question is... all drugs are at least partially metabolized in your liver. Some drugs are excreted via your liver, bowels or kidneys. Also, 42 years old is a little late to be taking BCP's, if you are using them for that purpose. Surely you are starting menopause or at least your FSH and LH levels should not be those of a 20 year old.
What other, if any meds are you taking. Anything is possible in regards to your liver function. Why do you have fatty liver disease? Did your doc say? I think I would be asking lots of questions and hopefully you can get them answered.
Somehow I think there is more involved than BCP's.
Good luck and God bless. Please write me back and let me know what's going on with you. I will answer as many questions as I can... and if I don't know the answer, I know where to find it.
Thanks,

Dear Laura,
Thaks for your answer. It was my mistake. It should be PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome). I was told that I was over weight and eat too much fry food. I am only 5ft, but weight 165lb.
I am taking the pills to regulate my period. My doctor told me to see the liver specialist. I am taking Metformin for PCOS as well.
Thanks.
Metformin is a medicine for Type 2 Diabetes and can cause liver problems. Go see your doctor and see if there is a different medicine u can take for your diabetes. It's not the BCP's. Polycystic ovary disease is unpleasant at best. I might ask my doctor for a total hysterectomy. Why both with periods at your age?
Write me, tell me what's going on... and if u like my answers, please vote up for me.
