Can I take valium , suboxone, diphenhydramine, and topiramate?

I checked on the various interactions between these medications. If you've been taking these meds together, you could be having very serious side effects. Please talk with your doctor as soon as possible. The dangers of mixing these meds can be very serious.

diphenhydramine ↔ topiramate

MONITOR CLOSELY: Certain drugs such as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and drugs with anticholinergic activity (e.g., antihistamines, antispasmodics, neuroleptics, phenothiazines, skeletal muscle relaxants, tricyclic antidepressants, disopyramide) may potentiate the risk of oligohidrosis and hyperthermia associated occasionally with the use of topiramate, particularly in pediatric patients. These agents may alter electrolyte and fluid balance (carbonic anhydrase inhibition), inhibit peripheral sweating mechanisms (anticholinergic effect), and/or interfere with core body temperature regulation in the hypothalamus (neuroleptics and phenothiazines), resulting in the inability to adjust to temperature changes, especially in hot weather. Also, agents with anticholinergic activity frequently cause drowsiness and other central nervous system-depressant effects, which may be additively or synergistically increased in patients also treated with topiramate.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised when topiramate is prescribed with other drugs that predispose patients to heat-related disorders, including carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and drugs with anticholinergic activity. Patients, particularly pediatric patients, should be monitored closely for evidence of decreased sweating and increased body temperature, especially in warm or hot weather. Proper hydration before and during vigorous activities or exposure to warm temperatures is recommended. Patients (or their guardians or caregivers) should contact their physician immediately if they are not sweating as usual, with or without a fever. Ambulatory patients treated with topiramate and agents with anticholinergic activity should also be made aware of the possibility of additive CNS effects (e.g., drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion) and counseled to avoid activities requiring mental alertness until they know how these agents affect them.

MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

I would like to add something although it might not be a complete answer. Sometimes other people beside the poster are looking at the answers. Suboxone is a respiratory depressant, meaning it could cause someone to stop breathing. Originally, suboxone was never given to patients who took other respiratory depressants, such as benzos( valium, xanax, lorazepam) muscle relaxers, ( soma, flexeril) and those dependent on alcohol. It can add to the other meds and greatly increase the chance of someone ceasing to breathe and also it produces more of an intoxicated state. If you have seizures, and both your suboxone doctor and your seizure doctor know ALL the meds you are taking and they still ok all of them, fine, but if a person did NOT disclose that they are taking benzos while on suboxone and they do NOT have seizures or at risk for having a seizure if they stop the benzo, they should not take benzos.

The less chemical alteration of the brain while on subs, the greater the chance the brain will heal fast from the opiate abuse.Please let all doctors you have know that you are on all these meds as it could be causing problems and a dose adjustment may be needed.I am NOT judging anyone, just want people to be safe, healthy and comfortable.
