I have been addicted to oxycontin for a year, on and off. I've taken 20 mg's of methadone over 7 hours ago, and starting too feel a bit ancy. I have no methadone left but i do have suboxone. Can i take the suboxone after taking the methadone. Mind you i am addicted to neither, and have done them both fewer than 5 times (they help with the w.d's a ton). Can anyone help me?

HELL NO. Do that and you'll get sick I promise. If you start on the subs before you are in moderately SEVERE w/d you'll regret it. Tell me all the reasons you believe you'll be okay because your situation is different and my answer won't change. So if you do it then get sick as hell it's on you. I surely wouldn't do it.

You need to be in fairly signifigant withdrawls before you take the suboxone. At least 3 days. If you have been taking methadone for a long time then you probably won't start to feel really bad for until day 5. If you take the suboxone before you're feeling really bad then it will put you into withdrawls like you won't believe. So wait as long as possible then take 4mgs... Dave

well, i took the methadone 24 hours ago and i haven't taken anything since. it was only the second time i've ever taken it. It wasn't prescribed but I needed something to help my with W.D'S and it did. Now i think the methadone isn't working, the w/d's aren't terrible but i can feel an onset. Would i get sick if i took that 4 mg, as the methadone i took was only 1 dose, not like i have been taking it for awhile. Please respond if you know anything Dave, thanks.

I got violently sick when i switched, but that was due to being told to wait 24hrs,instead of up to 72hrs. So did you wait long enough?

Well with my experience, I was on the methadone program for 3 years and was prescribed 160mg of Methadone a day, I had just recently went to treatment and got off it, they made me wait 6 days before they gave me suboxone, it was hell. But when I got out I started using again, and I have taken methadone one day and suboxone the next, just as long as (methadone) its not built up in your system you should be ok, I was ok when I did it but thats me it may be different for others, I would try to wait at least 12-24 hours before doing it though. Technically you are not suppose to mix them, I know alot of people that have gotten sicker mixing them but they were taking methadone daily

Here's my 2 bit's. I was was and am taking anything that had oxy in it for about a year and was switching from oxy's 2 suboxone without any trouble and the subs work wonderfull. I would just wait about 12 hrs after my last dose of oxy before subs. Any way I then decided to try methadone. I only took 10 pills 10mg/each for about 3 or 4 days till they were gone. My last day of methadone was sunday and I only had 1 10mg pill. then waited till wednesday morning at about 10:30am and was in withdrawl pretty bad and took 4mg suboxone and waited and hour..nothing, then took another half sub mg and nothing. then took another half 4mg. then all the sudden I felt better then 15 min later bam back into withdrawl worse than anything Iv'e ever felt. I had to scramble and take oxy and xanax to level out and it worked. But I don't know what everyone else is saying but now Im afraid to get back on my suboxone.

i just did this , i went and got a room. so my family didn't have to see this, plus when i'm alone i don't cry as bad. lol i took my last methadone 65 mg on monday, tuesday i was fine, wedsday i felt the w/d start to set in. thursday i moring, like 3am in the morning i felt my legs start to go numb and so you know the deal. but when i feel numbness in my legs for 3 or 4 hrs none stop i'm ready..but i was on too high a dose to really do . but i have a hard head and did it just the same. it was so much easier than i thought it would be. i did have my wife checking on me when i was in the room.thats my story. hope i've been of some help . i was on 65 mg's for 3 years.now i'm going to try to try to come off the subs within 6 month's. but family come's first in my life. and i would rather take something than become a burden to my family. and i took 3 years of trying to put my life back together first.and feel i was ready.

I just signed up to give my 2 cents. Hell anything the US FDA recommends being banned I take with a grain of salt but this designer drug Suboxone I really believe was designed by the Devil himself. I started on pain pills and Heroin in the 60's and believe me Methadone works. Everyone has lost sight as how to use it. 5 Years should be the longest you stay on then a 2mg taper every 2-3 weeks and you will walk off and never know you were ever using it. I have 1/2 dozen friends that have done the same. Problems Methadose they now use lasts only 12-16 hours. The original biscuits lasted 2-3 days before wd's. I read about drops by 20 or 40 mg? Are they crazy? 5mg should be the largest drop at a time. I tapered by 2mg like above and walked off feeling great and all the problems associated with it gone overnight, actually at around 10mg. I was clean 8 years at that time. Then the same old story, one time won't hurt me then it was off to the races.

@ Oldtimer2: I'm not 100% where you went, or even IF you went to a Suboxone CLINIC.I'm not trying to say u didn't know what you were taking but Suboxone one comes in 8mgs. AND I used suboxone for a year and I was NEVER ON or told to take 24mg in One day. I don't see why you would need 12mg is it was only 4 days. I REALLY think that you still had some methadone in you system or other opiate bc you body has to actually ALREADY BE IN WDs b4 you take suboxone so ensure you are not "overlapping" the drugs. Because of side effect-violently ill, Wds like you've never had, you can't tell if your coming or going. (Because I am 3 years sober and can say *So FAR* so slide backs)And I used Suboxone all the way!

DON'T DO IT!!! I have a friend who take large amounts of Methadone and was curious about Suboxone. I take Suboxone because I am a opiate addict. And personally I love it and I feel that it's saved my life. I was taking 10-12 Vicodin, Norco, or Percocets a day. Back to my friend, she hadn't taken any Methadone the day she took the Sub but once she took it, about a half hour later she was sick as a dog. She immediately went into withdarawl!!! And I mean something awful, had to call the ambulance and everything!! I couldn't believe it and will never give anyone any of my Subs ever again. Listen to your doctor, do as she or he saids! hate to say it but ur friend was lying to u!.u will not go into w/d while taking subox if u didn't take methadone. She must have taken sumthin 2 go in2 w/d.

lilredhead ~ I think u misunderstood. She said her friend hadn't taken Methadone THAT DAY... You can and will go into terrible withdrawal if you take Suboxone before 3 days off the Methadone. and 3 days if cutting it close!!! Her friend probably had Methadone in her system from either the day before or the day before that! This being from my own personal experience and from also working in a Drug and Alcohol Treatment facility. I have seen this senario too many times!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... I BEG ANYONE WANTING TO SWITCH FROM MD TO SB... WAIT AT LEAST 72 HOURS BEFORE SWITCHING. OR EVEN VICE VERSA... IF U ARE SWITCHING FROM SB TO MD... DO IT THE SAME~ 3 DAYS AT THE LEAST. I HOPE THIS HELPS :)

About four years ago i made the mistake of taking half a suboxone about 24hrs after taking my daily dose of 70mgs of methadone. I naively thought that those 24hrs would be long enough to wait. I swear I have never been so sick in my life! Not even with the flu! I had to report off of work and spent the day either in the bathroom, pacing the house or trying to sleep (couldn't do it). I got up @ 4am the next day, drove to the methadone clinic and drank my 70mgs! I was fine after that. However a few years ago, I decided that methadone was not working for me anymore so I droppd down to 30mgs, spent two days in withdrawl and then went on 12mgs of subox. I'm assuming that the longer you wait to take the suboxone, the less of a chance you have of going into severe withdrawl. I also wonder if body weight and metabolism have anything to do with it?

I waited 3 days after my 30mg of Methadone to take 6mg of Suboxone. I am very sick right now. littlemisssunshine sounds she waited what 24hrs before taking the metadone again? What do you think the earliest amt of time must go by before I can take methadone or opiate in order to make me feel better? Soooner the better, I am sick. LA

All u hear is wait wait..ive been on methadone for yrs... ive been on 20mgs for like 7 months now & am switching over to suboxone (again). The 1st time I only had to miss one day then could start it now they've switched it to u have to miss 2... which is bull. So yesterday I got my last dose and I'm sorry i refuse to be sick for 2 days do I made sure i had 2 suboxones just in case. I dont know who says methadone lasts 4-5 days but my 20mgs barely takes me to the next morning. Anyway I just took 2mgs of suboxone and it took away my upset stomach / scratchy throat (am i the only one who gets that?). So im barely outside 24hrs & i'm okay.

Everything worked out for me... im now on suboxone although i dont feel the same as i was when on methadone & i was only on 20mg's... its been almost a week I take 1 1/2 subs a day... maybe not enough? Oh well point being I didnt get MAJORLY sick after waiting just a day and a half after last dose of methadone although i only took 1/2 a sub... i guess ur right everyone is different &maybe ur methadone dose matters.

No-one here seems to have a grip on why you'd go all w.d.-ish' if you take suboxone too soon after you last dose of methadone. Suboxone also contains naloxone, which flushes all the lovely methadone/ opiates out of your brain, before it lets in the buprenorphine. If you havent waited long enough, its like you're washing the opiate band-aid right off, and KA-POW!!! you're sick as a dog, almost instantly. Suboxone, which is buprenorphine and naloxone, works because buprenorphine is only a partial opiate agonist, while blocking the effects of other opiates with naloxone. Naloxone is what they wake you up with if you have taken too much opiate. C'mon folks, if your lives are worth anything to you, talk to your doctors or look up reliable sites on the net. Do not listen to the general musings of your peers. After all, they're dumb enough to take dope.

WRONG ANSWER!!! It's the buprenorphine that puts you in w/d, the naloxone is only to keep you from abusing the subs, as in using it IV. Otherwise subutex, which has NO naloxone wouldn't work! Do a little more studying.

If suboxone is the same as subutex,bupernorfein I'm from UK please dont mix opiates bcos if u have opiates in your system the blockers even if a minute bit in your system can effect u badly bcos u go straight into withdrawls . I did this bcos I was in sooo much of a rush to Get off the opiates in my system & BAM!!! it lasted 24 hrs u have to think when withdrawals come on usually they build up & u get uste the the horrible effects then another onslaught starts but when u take a blocker over opiates u don't build up a pain barrier of the rollacoasting hell that's to come , u just go BAM!!! & it hits & there's not much u can do to supress it .

Suboxone will throw u into immediate withdrawal. It is also an opiate blocker. Only take the suboxone if u have no opiates in ur system. I'm currently at 120mgs of liquid methadone dailey and from personal experience have had the worst withdrawals of my life from not waiting for my system to be atleast three days clean of any opiate before taking the suboxone. The worst part is even if u have pills to take u wont even feel them. Like I said its also a opiate blocker. Good luck with everything.

Ive been taking Methadone for over 9 years and at one time during my Tx my Doc was attempting to put me on Suboxone. It didnt work and I took 60 mg of methadone, after having my daily Suboxone dose. I got scared and called my Doc and he was pissed. So much in fact that he cut me off, said good luck and if I lived thru the night to call him in the morning. Now obviously I did not die but his belief is that you cant mix the two. But I am also starting to get real synical about some of what he is telling me after reading what is posted here about subs. and remember if your addicted to oxy's than your addicted to opiates and all opiates fill the same neuro- receptors in your brain. Do research before dosing thats really all I can say.

PLEASE wait at least 72hrs, before taking the sub., if not u will get w.d.'s. The only way 2 get off meth. is a gradual withdrawal, I'm decreasing 2 mg. every couple of weeks from 60mg. I'm 34yo. and after 7 years of the juice and program running my life I HAVE to move on. Have no desire for "H", now its all pills anyway, but I do fight the urge to double up on my dose, which I have done a few times, but I would not recommend it. Still sick and tired in New York.

how long do i have to wait before i can take the subs? i took the methadone at 11:00 a.m and its 6:10 p.m now.
Im soooo glad I read this. Ive been successfully attending a methadone treatment center for three years. Went to 90 mgs fairly quick and stayed there until deciding to start the dose down. Went down 5 mgs a week to 30. The first few weeks werent all that bad but was sick the rest of the way through. Ive been at 30 mgs for 3 mos +/- . Cant afford the clinic and ins doesnt cover so sought subs. Went to the doc today and he gave me the script for subs and a few helpers to get me through the methadone withdrawl. He said to just take the subs in the morn. Like I said, soooo glad I read this, Im waiting to take the subs at least 3 days. I know when you hear methadone patients say a WD is bad its fucking bad. Thanks for the helpful knowledge and Ill let yous know how it goes.My advice to anyone, especially young peeps, only go methadone if youve tried everything else.

Id wake up in the morn just dosing down,and yes I know I shouldve went slower but it aint free, with my calves completely locked up. Id punch them and they were rock hard then theyd start to spasm, fucking not cool. just hang in there and know getting off what your on now is probably easier then getting off this med.

Fentanyl has such a long half life, I have NO IDEA what I'm doing or even the shrink ... now I'm scared. I am a chronic pain person and was doing fine on 15 mg oxys, until the docs took them away sayin' I was an addict because the Fentanyl patches weren't holding me and I took more than 60 a month ... 25 mcg of Fentanyl and 60 15 mg oxys and I'm an addict
They even advised detox. When I told my shrink that, said no way, he would put me on subs.
Whatever should I do?
