No, it is not a good idea. Different beta blockers (eg atenolol & metoprolol) have different properties and whilst Metoprolol may be good for you Atenolol may not be.
Why do you need to switch? Are you running out? You could always visit your pharmacy and ask for an emergency supply.

Metoprol tar is 25 mg atenolol is50 mg are they the same except for the mg?
