Can ativan be abused to get high off of like pain meds do? I think my husband is abusing them?

Yes they are addictive. Any type of Benzodiazepine can be abused. Ativan is one of the more stronger benzodiazepines too. If he has taken 12 in one day that's a big problem. The recommended dose is only 10mg and that's a really high dose. Many people become addicted to benzodiazepines such as Ativan, Xanax, Valium, etc.. They cause a sedating affect and can cause relive your stress and you feel great while you're on the medication, but if you stop you feel like crap and go through withdrawals. The withdrawals can be deadly. He could have seizures if he suddenly stops taking the ativan. I would recommend talking to him and/or make sure he get's the helps he needs to get off this medication as they are very addictive. Hope this helps and good luck!
