Can Antabuse be given to a guy who has undergone triple angioplasty & still drinks too much alcohol?

Hey Murlipdo,

Antabuse can adversely affect the heart if taken with alcohol. If this person is still actively drinking then taking antabuse is not such a good idea. If they are ready to quit drinking and have sought help such as from Alcoholics Anonymous or other similar counseling, then antabuse may be ok. Talking to his cardiologist would be necessary before starting antabuse.

Antabuse is only appropriate if he has stopped drinking. He needs to be commited to not drinking while taking the antabuse. You can read more about this drug by going to: http://www.drugs.com/antabuse.html

Hello Murlipdo. As long as the person does not drink and take Antabuse, he will be fine. If he drinks and uses the Antabuse, he will be in possible dire straits. Regards, pledge
