My dad had a heart valve stem replacement in Feb. they used a pig valve and they said he is a blood clotter, but he does not like the side affects that he has read about with Coumadin and sometimes it is hard for him to drive the 40 miles one way each week to get his blood checked. Just want to know if this could be an easier drug for him.
Can Aggrenox be used to replace Coumadin (Warfarin) if you are a clotter?

Yes, Aggrenox can be used to prevent clots.
Aggrenox contains a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole. Aspirin is in a group of drugs called salicylates. It works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation and also prevents clotting.
Dipyridamole keeps platelets in your blood from sticking together to form clots.
Aggrenox is a capsule containing 25 mg aspirin and 200 mg dipyridamole.
Aggrenox is used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have had blood clots or a "mini-stroke" (also called a transient ischemic attack or TIA).

His doctor knows best, regarding whether Aggrenox can totally replace warfarin.
