can I get pregnant if I am experiencing breakthrough bleeding? would it be correct to assume because there is bleeding during middle of the 2nd week in the pack that ovulation is taking place and the pill isn't working?

It is very difficult to say that the contraceptive isn't working if you are having breakthrough bleeding.
You may have breakthrough bleeding, especially during the first 3 months. Tell your doctor if this bleeding continues or is very heavy.
