Side effects of using Cefadroxil:
Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea may occur. Some serious side effects are: stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, new signs of infection (e.g., persistent sore throat or fever), easy bruising/bleeding, change in the amount of urine, mental/mood changes (such as confusion).
This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea) due to a type of resistant bacteria. This condition may occur during treatment or weeks to months after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have any of the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell the doc if one develops: persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, blood/mucus in your stool.

According to the book Nursing Drug Handbook 2008 the nursing considerations are: Before administration, ask patient if he is allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins. Obtain specimen for culture and sensitivity tests before giving first dose. Therapy may begin while waiting for results. If creatinine clearance is less than 50 ml/min, lengthen dosage interval so drug doesnt accumulate. Monitor renal function in pts with renal dysfunction. If large doses are given, therapy is prolonged, or pt is high risk, monitor pt for superinfection. Dont confuse drug with other cephalosporins that sound alike. Instruct pts to take drug with food.or milk to lessen GI discomfort. Tell pt to take entire amount of drug exactly as prescribed, even after he feels better. Advise pts to notify prescriber if rash develops or if signs and symptoms of superinfection appear such as recurring fever, chills and malaise. Hope this helps
