I have been taking Aggrenox for five years and have had no side effects. It was prescribed for me in early 2006 after a TIA.
The other morning I awoke with my left eye very bloody. I visited our community nurse and then my Doctor. Both took my blood pressure and said I was OK, and I should expect the eye to be blood shot for a couple of weeks. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I reduce twice a day Aggrenox pill or stop it all together? (My Cholesterol counts is 120 with LBL at 54; BP is 138 /80 Both are very good)
Bloody Eye - is it related to Agrrenox?

This condition looks very ugly and scary but it really isnt as dangerous as it looks. It is just a small capillary in the sclera (the white of the eye) has broken. It is basically the same as a bruise. Sometimes it can be due to having dry eyes. When the conjuctiva (thin membrane covering the sclera) dries it can catch causing a blood vessel to break and leak a little blood. It will take time to fade just like any other bruise. Aggrenox contains very little aspirin (25mg) and it is possible it could have contributed. Do you have a lot of bruising elsewhere on the body? Do you get bleeding gums or nosebleeds? Any bloody or tarry looking stools? This can indicate that the blood is not clotting as it should. I would consult the Dr who prescribed the Aggrenox and ask him about whether or not you should continue, reduce or should you, maybe, be on a different drug. I would not reduce or quit without his approval.
