my mother has had very high blood pressure for the last 6 months. She is suppose to have hip replacement surgery. The Doctors say they can't until they get her blood pressure under control. My mother tells me they keep adjusting her medicine but to no avail. It's hard for me to believe it has taken 6 months for them to get it low enough to have the surgery. my question is is my mother fibbing to me because she is scared to have the surgery or is it that difficult to to get someone's blood pressure lowered?

It's impossible to say for sure on this board if your mother is "fibbing" or not. I don't know her medical history. You know her better than we do. Does she have a history of severe enough blood pressure problems to make this situation realistic? The dr's concern is obviously with the anesthesia that would be administered.
Have you considered buying a blood pressure cuff yourself? I would go to walmart or whatever and buy a cuff. I have to monitor my own blood pressure. I bought a good quality cuff with a digital readout and it's as simple to use as it can be. The cost was less than $100 I believe or thereabouts at least. It might be worth it to put yourself at ease over your mom. Buy a cuff and go over to your mom's house. Check her pressure for yourself. Hope that helps.
