I'm currently taking 300mg of Bupropion XL and 200mg of Lamotrigine. Now my dr wants to put me on Zoloft for the anxiety. Is it just me or does it seem like this is too much medication... just wondering.

Hello castaway524. I answered your question previously. Not certain why it did didn't post. The Zoloft should help ease up on some of your anxiety. As to taking to much of any one or the 3 together. No, you're fine. Good health and hope this response does post, pledge

One of the most common uses of Zoloft is Anxiety. I take 400 mg of Lamotrogine, 4 mg of Klonopin and 1800 mg of Gabapentin. It seems like a lot of meds, but sometimes it's necessary. I'm bipolar 1, and have had a 6 mos. episode of mania, at which time I was homeless, and maybe your Dr. is trying to prevent that from happening to you. Your Dr. knows what he's doing. Trust him. You're a smart person asking the group on this site. We care about you. There are very dedicated people on this site that spend most of their time doing research to answer our questions. Stay with us. Keep asking. I know there will be a time when we'll need to ask you one also. You take care, Darlin!
Thank you for your input! I am 40 years old and finally came to the conclusion that I needed to see a doctor regarding my mood swings. The Lamotrogine and Buproprion work excellent for me, but I found that my anxiety was not under control. The doctor initially prescribed me Lorazepam, but I can only take that on my days off from work because of its effects. I hope the Zoloft works. I'm just concerned about any side effects I may have. I still have the racing thoughts so I hope it helps with that also.

I know that taking more medication is not exactly what you wish to do, but honestly if it helps your symptoms then it is definitely worth it. I take two antidepressants, bupropion XL and Pristiq as well as Abilify for my bipolar type II disorder. I use to take lamotrigine as well, but the doctor decided the Abilify was enough so I stopped. Treating your symptoms is important and if the anxiety is getting in the way of your daily life then it is time to do something about it. Zoloft is a good medication for this.
Thank you LaurieShay! This stuff is all new to me so any input is appreciated.

I'm sorry the Attivan didn't work out 4 u. I've seen pretty low doses of benzo anti-anxieties work well w/out creating that "this is 2 much medication" effect. I think the hardest thing about treating bipolar d/o's is the struggle 2 find the right combination for *you*. It can be frustrating & push the limits of ones patience while ur waiting 2 find the perfect cocktail tailored 4 you. But once u & ur Dr find that fit, I believe a whole new world opens up & the experimenting & waiting will have been worth it. Knowledge is power - learn as much as u can from everyone & everything u can. Best wishes & I'll b sending some loving light ur way in my meditations!
Thank you echo08! :)

Propranolol has worked very well for me to block my severe anxiety before it even has a chance to start. Its a beta blocker and blocks the receptors in your heart and lungs. I would definitely look into it. After I had AWFUL Xanax blackouts and trying MANY meds its so nice to be on a non-addictive med that doesn't make me feel in a fog and blocks the problem before it even starts! Hope this helps friend! Take care!
Thank you terica3825! I wouldn't call my anxiety level severe, however I would like to get it under control before it does. The racing thoughts are what bother me the most.
My anxiety isn't always severe. As most meds you and your Doctor will find the appropriate dosage.

Castaway, you're taking almost the same dosages of those two drugs that I am (200 lamotrigine & 450 buproprion). A couple of years ago I was taking zoloft for depression, it helped but didn't "cure" the depression like lamotragine has (I've never had bipolar symptoms). My therapist calls it a mood stabilizer. I'd give zoloft a try, I don't think it's too much medication and it might work!
