I found Effexor to be horrible, but everyone reacts differently. I was taking it in additiona to Wellbutrin and all it did was make me nauseous(sp?), ruined my sex life and didn't help depression at all. When I started lamictal I was able to stop the Effexor cold turkey, which helped a lot. Now with lamictal and wellbutrin I've been cured.

I tried adding abilify at 1 time but had no luck with that. I also take 2mg xanax 3 times day. I may consider ask about increasing lamictal I have just spoke to several people who said that had great success with effexor. However, I have also had people tell me of their success with Lexapro but I had horrible experience on Lexapro where I didnt know where I was what I had done or needed to do. Trying to find right balance of meds is very frustrating & I often wonder if I will ever get back to the happy out going person I use to be.
Hang in there, I know it is frustrating trying to find the right combination, but when you do all the effort will have been worth it.
Laurie is right its the climb to get balanced then its ahhhh yes this is right im me again.
Hi . I am feeling depressed with the idea I have to be on lamictal .i am only on 50 mg n choose to stick to 50 only.. But it's good to know some of you are taking the situation better than myself. Was diagnosed with bipolar recently this year. But I ain't sure if I really have it. Only thing is I suffered from a manic episode.. Where I couldn't sleep for nights.. Then was told I have anxiety disorder n depression.. But later on when consulted a different pyschiatrist I was told its bipolar disorder. I was happy with the fact I could get off Xanax n the other anti - depressants.. Sumtimes I dunno how long I can take this.. Very hard to see the future..
Staying in the here and now works the best for me. I try to not get caught up in what label the docs give my diagnosis, but rather concentrate on treating the symptoms. I'm bipolar II with depression and take several medications to control my symptoms so I can function on a daily basis.
I feel horrible Laurie.. Especially at night becoz the thought of not having my normal sleep is just disrupting my quality of life... I dunno if I should get onto anti depressants n get off lamictal.. Any suggestions? Coz I dun think lamictal is helping me..
When you say you feel horrible what exactly are your symptoms? Are you sleeping at night right now? Are you sleeping during the day or are you out and about? Without being able to assess your state of mind, it is hard to make suggestions. Need to trust the doctor and if you feel that you are experiencing mood fluctuations than by all means make an appt.
