Topical corticosteroids are available over the counter but of only mild potency eg Hydrocortisone cream. Betamethasone cream is a potent corticosteroid so is restricted to a prescription to ensure that is used safely and appropriately.
If you need Betamethasone you are best to see your doctor. The mild hydrocortisone creams are not that effective if something stronger is required.
