Benztropine - What type of problems do they prescribe cogentin medications?

My son takes Benztropine, the generic of Cogentin, because a lot of anti-psychotic medications cause muscle stiffness and Cogentin aka Benztropine helps offset muscle stiffness. He started taking it when he was on Respirdone and then continued when he was started taking Zyprexa and Lithium. I'm sure you don't need to be taking an anti-psychotic to need a medication to offset muscle stiffness, but that has been my exposure to it.
