my doc prescribed guefenisen again to me but i feel its the same thing as otc ... is it better than say robitussum or mucinex ... i have a bad wet cough

Guaifenesin is guaifenesin no matter if it is OTC or Rx! The differences are in the strengths and what other drugs they are mixed with in a preparation. Mucinex is plain guaifenesin while Mucinex DM has guaifenesin and dextromethorphan. See what strength he prescribed and if you can match it with OTC then go for it!

I have asthma, and when guafenisen is suggested with the cough suppressant, like Mucinex DM, my asthma gets pretty bad. It is like it is liquifying the mucus that is causing the cough/congestion to make it easier to get rid of, but then suppressing the cough that would be getting rid of the mucus. So, if I have to take guafenisen, I take just that medication by itself, then if I have to treat the cough to sleep at night, I take a cough suppressant only medication at night.
