... neck pain has gotten worse. I'm seeing a pain management doctor who increases my meds everytime I come in because they cease to help. Currently, I'm taking 4 lortab 10's and 2 Flexeril 10's a day. Not only do I still barely get through the day, but I just found out I'm pregnant with a 4th child. All my pain management doctor plans to do is keep me on the lortab and take me off the flexiril. There has to be something else I can do. For one thing, I'm scared to take the Lortabs while pregnant, for another, it's hard enough getting through the day WITH the 2 Flexiril, I don't know what to do without it. Most days my pain is unbearable, being pregnant will just make it worse. I'm also part of a very very low income family. What can I do for the pain?

Find some non-medicine ways to deal with pain. Pain meds are not for everyone. I was on some pretty heavy triplicate prescriptions for fibromyalgia and RA. They stop working and as a fairly young person, you end up with no where to go. At 35 (6 years ago), I decided to take myself off Morphine, Flexeril, Ultram, Ms Contin and several other meds for which I was prescribed. Find some CDs with guided imagery and meditation. Deep relaxation and bio-feedback is also helpful. At least try while until your baby is born. Will this fix things permanently? Maybe or maybe not, but you owe it to you and your baby's health to try! But, if it gets too bad, don't be afraid to seek help from a doc. Medications are useful and serve a purpose. You just have to figure out if the risk is worth the effects of medications..

I just wanted to add that doing yoga will also help. You surely don't want all these meds in your system while pregant. There is a lot of stretching in yoga that actually does help the back pain...
What if stretching hurts my back? You know how everybody has an early morning stretch? I don't, because I can't. Stretching causes all the muscles in my back to crap and seize and it's extremely painful.
yoga is a bit different than the stretching you are saying when you first wake up you are are tight from not moving all night. Just give it a try after you are up & moving around a bit. Can't hurt! Mary
