I am going to Thailand.
I enjoy drinking beer and wine (& in some countries alcohol with a mixer). Is there problems with the effectiveness of the drug when taken with alcoholic beverages? How much can one drink with this medicine?
What about nightmares? Is this a side affect of the drug?

Atovaquone/proguanil is a prescription medication licensed to prevent or treat malaria. As the name implies, it is a combination of two antimalarial medicines: atovaquone and proguanil.
Beers/alcohol in reasonable quantities is ok with meds, generally it is not recommended to drink as alcohol may be bad in case of the side effects of the meds, it could activate side effects.
Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations) or nightmares is indeed one of the many common side effects of taking Atovaquone/proguanil pills.
Take care, best wishes!
