Dear,
As your anxiety is not controlled by Atarax, then please consult your doctor and try alternate anti anxiety drugs actually some time body is not accepting the medicines that is why it is not beneficial for you but you may try other product range of anti anxiety but only with the very close supervision of your doctor. you should also have tested your blood, other necessary medical test so that it may be identified that why you are not getting benefit from this/these drugs. May be you are using other medicines along with this medication and it may reduce the effect of the medicines. There are many factors of no response of drugs.
So consult with a Pharmacist or Doctor and tell your history of taking medicines and environment.
Thanks

Hi. I don't think you should feel stupid asking any question. We all react differently.

I'm not a doctor, but I have taken several anti-anxiety drugs over the years. I also have generalized anxiety disorder and am prone to panic attacks. I have taken Atarax, and I believe it has been on the market for many years, and have not heard about problems with it. I found it did not help me all that much, at all except for making me sleepy. I've also taken Valium, and that has done nothing for my anxiety. Right now, I am taking Xanax, and that drug seems to help me more than any other. It definitely reduces my anxiety. I take it on an "as needed basis", between 1 and 3 times per day at .5 mgs per dose. I think its best that you keep a record of how the Atarax is working for you... times taken, how it affected you, and what was going on. Then you could show this to your doctor and he could recommend what you should do next. If you have questions, don't feel like you have to wait for your next scheduled doctor's appointment, just go ahead and call. I really hope this helps a little. I know what you're going through. I sometimes get so panicky that I can't drive even short distances.

Don't feel stupid. I went through panic for years and I finally started to tell everyone about it and people will understand, BUT- you need to see the right doctor to get the right meds to help. I used to leave the groceries in the store and just go. I've also had to pull over to the side of the road because of panic. You are definitly not alone. BUT--there is help. You just have to find it. I am on prozac and lamictal for clinical depression, but I also take Xanax as needed if I feel like I am getting jumpy/nervous, whatever. Good luck

Are you sure that the medication the doctor prescribrd was atarax. Atarax is usually prescribed for a very different condition. No knowing you or what meds you have been on or how long you have had this maybe you should see a psychiatrist. Maybe he/she can prescribe something that will help with your anxiety and panic attacks but maybe they can suggest a therapist that you can talk to so that maybe you can get to the bottom of what is causing your anxiety and panic attacks, Having had both of the symptoms I know hoe scary it is. Good Luck and God Bless I hope that is is a little helpful. I hope you start feeling better soon.

PS--did you know that Atarax is an antihistimane? It is supposed to be quite strong, but it really didn't help me except back in '78 after I had a baby and developed hives. It knocked me on my butt, course I was young and had not taken any type of drugs yet. Anyway, there are a lot of drugs out there listed for one thing, but used for another condition. Search the internet. It is very helpful.
