Are both Valerian & Valium , the same ?

No. Valium is a benzodiazepine drug and Valerian is an herbal product made from the root (and sometimes other parts) of the Valeriana Officianalis plant. The root is the part of the plant that has the active chemicals. Valium and Valerian are nothing alike chemically but they are both used to promote relaxation and as anxiolytics. Valerian is used to promote sleep. Valium is a drug and much stronger and can be very addictive. Valerian is a plant substance and is much more subtle in its action. Valerian should not be used longer than one month of continuous use.
