Anxiety/Depression has been in my family along with diabetes; should I risk taking Accutane?

This is my personal opinion but here goes. I HATE Accutane and wouldnt recommend it to anyone! We have some mild depression in our family here and there. I had two cousins, one on my moms side and the other on my fathers side who had never had any signs of depression until they started taking Accutane. They were both 17 when they commited suicide. The cousin on my moms side was first. He was an athlete too. Had just done well at State Wrestling Champs and had everything to live for-his whole life ahead of him. He became depressed quickly after starting accutane and finally ended up shooting himself in the chest down in his basement. His mother and father found him dead that evening. The gun he used was in pieces and he put it together to do the deed so it was no accident. My other cousin shot himself a year or two later. He even had seen all my family went through when my first cousin died but yet he still commited suicide after starting Accutane.

No history of depression in him either until the drug. He was graduating High School, was accepted into college, had his whole life ahead. He started giving prized possessions away to friends, called his mother at work one afternoon and told her he loved her then went into his room, turned on Fairwell to Kings by Rush up loud, put a shotgun under his jaw and blew his head off. His brother was sleeping downstairs, something woke him (the gunshot most likely) and he went to check on his little brother and found him dead on the floor with his brains sprayed across the room. Both were taking Accutane when they killed them selves. There is now a black box warning about risk of suicide while taking Accutane. I wouldnt give Accutane to a rat I hated!!! If you do or do not have depression in your family I would think long and hard before taking Accutane. If you do decide to take it be sure you know all signs and symptoms of depression. We now know that my cousins were showing some of the classic symptoms of teens contemplating suicide. We knew the first one had been alittle depressed but no one realized it was bad as it was. The other cousin, when giving away possesions, we should have known but his parents just didnt realize it was a sign that he was thinking of suicide. If you begin to feel depressed at all-GET OFF THAT MEDICINE!!! Sorry-dont mean to shout but i would hate to see this drug take one more person!! Our whole family has been severly affected by these kids who died when their whole lives were ahead of them! My brother lost his best friend when the first one died. The second one, I was close to. I will NEVER allow my children to take that vile drug! I just wanted to share this bit with you to get you to think about what you could be doing to yourself and your family. Be very careful and be sure that you and your family watch for signs to get you help if you start this drug and begin to show signs of depression no matter how mild it seems at first.
