... anyone researched doctors who specialize in the treatment of thrombocythemia?
I began seeing blood in my urine about two months ago. I see that blood in urine is a side effect of this med. My Urologist thinks that the anagrilide is the cause of the blood.
I'd like to find a doctor(hematologist?) who is knowledgeable in my disease and knows of another med to treat it.
I live in Alabama.
Thanks for any info
Anagrelide - I've been seeing the same doctor since being put on anagrilide, seven years ago. Has?

A Hematologist is definately the way to go for any blood problems. I have a blood disorder called Factor 5 Leyden and I am on Coumadin and sometimes either Lovenox or Heparin injections they need to keep my levels high because I tend to get alot of blood clots even on blood thinners. Good luck hope you find a good Hematologist to help you, if you were in my area I could give you a name of an excellent doctor who has save my life a few times, but I will be talking to him on Monday the 24th of May and I will ask him if he knows of anyone in your area for this issue. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much (for asking your Doc if there's a good Hemo in my area).
Hope everything works out for you.
Hey, your welcome, anytime. I saw the doctor today and he didn't have anybody off the top of his head but he is going to check on it and let me know. I will let you know as soon as he calls me, probably the end of the week he said o.k. I told him about this site and he is glad I have somewhere to turn to for advice on most anything plus he knows I enjoy trying to help people so he doesn't mind looking this up for us. I get more out of this site than I do going to my local Mental Health Center. Wish I could of helped now but hopefully he will have someone for you soon. Good luck with the blood issue. Blood issues can be very difficult to deal with that is why I suggested a Hemotologist, they are the miracle workers for that. I will be talking to you soon I hope.

You need to contact the cancer assoc./doctors in your area. You need to find an oncologist of hemotology/oncologist who specializes in hemotology. Hope this is helpful. It took me awhile to find the right dr., I know that there is a chemo drug that (once you find a dr.) can explain to you. This is the only other option as far as I know. How did your current doctor determine or find out you had thrombocytopenia. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info that I can find. If you have found a good site which includes info re: this blood condition, I would be interested. Let me know, if you see this. Good Luck in finding a good dr.

Hi scout84,
I have recently been diagnosed with ET and am taking anagrelide with some side effects, but not too bad. The doctor I see is a hematologist and he is very good. Only bad thing is he is in Oklahoma like me. If you would like his number I can give it to you, just email. Are you seeing a Hematologist?

I sympathise with you. You should consult a hemotologist for this disease. Who's been prescribing anagrelide? Is he a hemotologist? Did you read the side effects of Anagrelide? You may be experiencing a side effect from Anagrelide, you should also have your hemoglobin checked. Anagrelide appears to be the best treatment for this disease, and it does have side effects. To find a hemotologist you can check with your insurance carrier for one in your area. You may also want a hemotologist who specializes in Thrombocythemia then check him out on line to see if he/she has any complaints against him/her.
