Both the antibiotics amoxicillin and ampicillin belong to the penicillin class of antibiotics and are similar in effectiveness.
Amoxicillin is easier to take - it doesn't matter how it is taken in relation to food.
Ampicillin is usually taken four times a day and must be taken on an empty stomach.
Amoxicillin is usually taken three times a day with or without food.
