Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine - What is the average starting dose and average maintenance dose for?

I started at 5 mg. immediate release and I now take 10mg. extended release. I think evreyone is so different that the dose can be really varied

I started out with 5mg tablets 3 times a day in 2007. I now take 10 mg tablets 4 times a day and that is 40mg a day. My starting dose was 15 mg a day and it helped a little so over time my Doctor increased it to 40 mg a day but 40 mg a day is a very high dose. I think 20 to 30 mg works for most people.

Hi JMRocha - Everyone is very different. Its been a while since I first started, but I believe I began with one 10 mg. tablet. Because I have unusually high tolerance for all medications, including vitamins, I moved on to 15 mgs. in the a.m., and another 10 mg. in the afternoon. I try to keep at a minimum therapeutic dosage, unless really needed for work. But, my Psychiatrist is comfortable with me taking up to 4 of the 10 mg. tablets/day. But, I never take that much. I personally don't care for the extended release, as there is less predictability with reaction time, for me personally, and they just don't work well for me. But, I'm sure you will be able to work closely with your Dr. to find out what & how much of the medication works best for you. Be sure to be very candid with the Dr. about how its affecting you, such that you can reach your own therapeutic dose. Good luck!

I'm now on adderall 30 mg immediate release 3x/day. that is the max dose. however, dr's usually begin adults on about 10mg extended release once a day or 5-10mg immediate release twice a day. depending what your dr. feels you need to maintain on... it's usually no more than a max of 40mg a day on IR, split up throughout the day and 30mg XR, 1 time in the a.m. when i was on XR, my maintenance dose was 30mg.
