Hi purple19m. It might be a week or longer before the tiredness and sleepiness begins to ease up. These side effects are normal and will most always if not disappear, they will lessen. The theraputic effects, will take a bit longer. Most anywhere from four or five weeks. Possibly a bit earlier. You'll have to be a bit patient, but once the amitriptyline begins to work, you'll be feeling a lot better. Best of wishes, pledge

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question, so helpful.
ostn likely the dose will need to be increased. it does take a few weeks to adjust but my doctor had me take it earlier in the evening to help with the morning sleepiness. What time are you taking the nedication. I take mine around 8PM duting work nights and later on the weekends when I can sleep later.
Let us know how it goes. it is a good medication so give it at least 3 months to see if it will helo with pain. But always consult your doctor first.

Hi Sheila thanks for your reply it's appreciated. I take it around 8pm and took my 3rd one last night, I have to get up at 7am to do the school run. I just don't like the all day dopey feeling but as everyone has said that should pass in a few weeks. I've got two evening out this weekend so not sure what to do, especially as I have to get up for my two boys in the mornings!
