kitty32i have icu for the last year and half... on and off..every second night or more my face swells up and covered in hives all over my body... tried all sorts of therapy,diets,tablets..i do get some relief from avoiding certain foods but not enough..i cant cope anymore... doctors not helping me...
any advice appreciated,,,

First of all, you need to start keeping a food journal and a symptom journal. Eliminating certain foods has helped you a bit, but you are clearly reacting to more foods. You may have to try the elimination diet. Google it-- you basically start with rice and work your way slowly to other foods. It's radical, or seems that way for a week or so, but your situation is becoming unbearable for you, so you need to treat it seriously.
Second, you probably have already done this, but research all the non-food things that can cause hives and itching. I have actually had hives from sun exposure, so just because it is rare, doesn't mean it isn't affecting you! When I was a avid runner in graduate school, I got hives on my legs whenever I ran in my running shorts on the Town Lake trail in Austin. It was a beautiful six mile loop along some river marshes and tributaries that I couldn't run in the summer because I couldn't run it in shorts!

I have had hives for 7 years now. I can relate to how you feel. I have been tested for everything under the sun with normal results. My allergist says it is a audioimmune disorder. It has to do with my body making to many antibodies. We went through many drugs trying to find some relief for me. He decided to try a drug called Dapsone, in which he really did not feel it would help but thought it was worth a try. It has been a blessing, I tried it within 2 days there was no sign of the hives. I ran out of them last week and since it was done through mail order and I had to wait for them to be shipped, I looked like someone beat the crap out of me. My face was swollen with hives and all over my body. I found that they do no itch as much as they are painful. They are definately different than having a allergic reaction to food or drugs. If you have this type of hives I would recommend trying the Dapsone. I started out on 50 mg and that helped for a long time.
