It can be hard on your stomach on a nightly basis. It contains aspirin in some preparations which can cause gastric irritation and bleeding. The preparations are high in sodium. What is helping you sleep in the cold formula is the antihistamine. Have you tried taking 1-2 Benedryl (diphenhydramine) or Tylenol PM (which is diphenhydramine and acetaminophen combo) if you have pain at night as well as sleeplessness. It is best not to take medicines you dont need to and taking alka seltzer cold formula without a cold gives you a lot of chemicals you dont need. You might talk to your Dr about an Rx for AmbienCR to help you sleep.

Very true! Many people dont realize that acetaminophen is one of the most hepatotoxic (liver damaging) drugs available. So many people think since drugs are OTC they are harmless. When people OD on prescription combo opioids like percocet, the acetaminophen content in the drug is actually the most dangerous. The narcotic is easily "neutralized" by Narcan but the acetaminophen is harder to deal with and very damaging to the liver. When you drink with it the risk goes up! I have a friend who is on a waiting list for a liver and kidney transplant because she took either Tylenol or ibuprofen every day for a year because she had bad teeth. Then she usually drank 1-2 glasses of wine along with it. She completely destroyed her liver! Very sad situation.

DzooBaby is absolutely right on again! I also take 2 - 25mg. benadryl to sleep. Does help tremendously.
