... being tired. I take antibuse which works great for me unless I "plan" a vacation from it. Sober right now after a holiday binge. Hope to get to know some other recovering alcohics here...
For those who live a sober life, what was the most important thing that you did to get there?

Hey My_2boyz,
Welcome to the site. I am an alcoholic. The most important thing I did to get there was to change my playmates and my playgrounds. I spent many hours in AA meetings and don't regret a bit of it. Changing ones habits requires a change of environment as well. Find the healthy people and stick with them, you'll be glad you did.

Ditto Laurie,also get a sponsor who has at least 7 years,someone who is really working the program,get the big book,and when you go to meetings share,share,share,and then share... Join a group asap say the serenity prayer and tell yourself 1 day,1 hour 1 min. 1 second at a time.stay the course and if you want this ,you really sound like you do,you will get there.God bless,and we are here for you too if you need us.hit those meetings now,big hugs,and congrats,you will do this,criss

What a great answer Laurie... simple, yet it struck me as so profound. I guess because it is so true.
My 2boyz, I do not have a long history of sobriety... like 41/2 mos... and my substances are opiates...
I prayed so hard for so long to have the desire and cravings to be taken away from me. The last time I prayed for this, I was particularly desperate and desolate... anyway, the Lord showed me the direction... He placed the suboxone website in front of my face while online as He did with this wonderful place in this terrific community at Drugs.com. The truly wonderful and caring people here took me in their arms and loved me and helped me through. God also led me to the most wonderful suboxone treatment doctor that I think that I ever could find along with a caring and great addiction therapist who has become my sponsor. All of this came from a desperate and desolate prayer to my God for help.
So... the answer to your question is God through prayer.
