Once I have used the nonpreservative tears my eyelids will start burning about thirty minutes later. If I use the tears again it is the same the burning will stop and thirty minutes later it starts again. It seems like once i do give in to using the drops at the end of the day it makes my dry eyes worse.

Your eyes are very dry. It is possible that you may have developed an allergy to an ingredient of your particular tear product. You might try noting the ingredients. Some contain polyvinyl alcohol and some contain methylcellulose and there are others. See what the main ingredient is in your brand and look for a brand with a different main ingredient to see if this helps or you can consult your Ophthalmologist.

Now that I see your added content I can answer more. The tear you are using may not be a good quality tear. It sounds like it is initially moistening the eye surface but evaporating quickly and drying your eye further. Can you tell me what kind you use? There are a lot of tear products out there and some are better than others. I, personally, think the brands that contain methylcellulose work better than polyvinyl alcohol. Polyvinyl alcohol is very drying in the long run and can make you more dependent on your tear replacement drop.
I switch between Refresh Plus and Systane Ultra. I am currently using the Refresh Plus and that is the one that is making my eyelids burn 30 minutes after I put them in. It literally feels like someone has thrown acid on them which in turn makes me use them again to get rid of the burning, it is just a vicious cycle. Thanks so much for trying to help I will watch for your next post
Do you have any suggestions to an artificial tear (non-preservative) that will be gentler on my eyes and moisturizing? My opthalmologist is not much help and does not give me the answers I am looking for other than my eyes are dry and use artificial tears. Thank-You
