Shampoo your hair first and also dry the area well before applying Dovonex.

Wash your hands before and after applying Dovonex, unless you are using it to treat a hand condition.

Clean and dry the area of skin where you will apply Dovonex. Apply the medication only to the affected area.

Before applying the medicine to your scalp, comb your dry hair to remove any flakes, then part your hair so that you can see the scalp lesions. Apply the solution to the lesions and rub it in gently but completely. Do not apply the medicine if the lesions are very irritated because the alcohol in the product may make the irritation worse. Try not to get any medicine on your forehead.

Do not apply Dovonex to eyes, mouth, face, mucous membranes, open sores, or irritated skin. If you get medication on any of these areas, rinse it off with water.

Dovonex is usually applied once or twice a day.
