Whats the differance

hi hama7yme, your question doesn't have a black & white answer in my opinion, as I take both adderall XR & IR & have for about a year now... part of the reason is because of the generic factor... adderall XR is the only form of adderall that you can still get a prescription filled with the Shire branded name... i am prescribed the 20 mg XR, but i believe there may still be a 30 mg XR, I am sure many can confirm this if so, and there may be a dose smaller than the 20 mg capsule, a 10 mg maybe...
i take the adderall (shire) 20 mg XR in the morning, 3 of them for a total of 60 mg, and in theory this means 30 mgs are IR and should be relatively released immediately and the other 30 mgs releases at a controlled rate throughout the next 5-6 hours - this is my experience with XR. I am a fan of the XR, though in the Shire brand, i can't say quite the same for the generic I had one time, which I am 90% certain was the Teva brand generic. I am prescribed 20 mg IR to take in the afternoon, and i can tell u for sure that the XR is great, but i take it around 6am and it tends to wear off by the afternoon, after 1-2:00, almost like clockwork, i feel a crash set in, can almost set your watch to it, and the IR helps smooth that out & helps me to finish out my work day in a more productive way than i otherwise would. I was diagnosed ADHD/inattentive type - when i am focused i am unstoppable and people get exhausted just watching me (lol) but when my focus strays, i am a train wreck of sorts... the adderall has been a real blessing for me, both XR & IR. the only drawback i personally have experienced is some hyper focus, but I recognize it better when it happens now and am usually able to ease myself out of it.
I definitely recommend Adderall XR for anybody with an ADHD diagnosis, and u can work on the dosage with your HCP... i started at 40 mg and it did lose some of its efficacy after almost a year and my doctor bumped me up 20 mg. I normally do not need the IR booster when I am not at work, where i need to be focused in a way i don't need to be when i am not. some will say it is not a take as needed medication, and i agree, and i take the XR daily, but I do not take the IR everyday, almost everyday, though... IR is great to start off with, and as your body adjusts to this medication, XR is a much more comfortable & even keel way to go. hope this helps.

I've been taking aderall for a while. I would be taking more than I am now except it is a stimulant and along with narcolepsy I have Marfan ...
